opt-in/opt-out
Sep. 3rd, 2020 08:15 pmHello!
Charlie doesn’t realize this herself, but she is not human. She is actually a robot being possessed, you could say. While Charlie looks like a normal human being to a normal person, she is actually a mechanical robot and doesn’t look nearly as life-like as she is perceived. (She’s not Westworld levels of advanced, in other words.)
This is achieved by use of - and I wish I was joking about this - a small, half-dollar-sized metal disc located somewhere inside her body that vibrates enough to give off some kind of audio frequency wave that confuses people into seeing a normal human girl. (In cameras or on video, Charlie would look blurred and somewhat distorted, as if in motion, unless the photo was taken from a far enough distance that the disc could not reach it.) This does not cause any physical or mental symptoms to anyone around her, apart from perceiving a robot made in 1982 as looking like a real human girl.
This fools everyone around her for 15 years, so typical human beings would most likely not be able to see that Charlie is not human. However, in RP, Charlie's going to run into different kinds of people with different kinds of abilities, so I wanted to set up an opt-in in case your character would be able to see through Charlie's (inadvertent) disguise.
If your character can see Charlie as she really is (a robot), she will look like a humanoid robot, but she will clearly not be human. Unfortunately we never get a real description of what she actually looks like in canon, but considering her father's humanoid robot from the games, it's probably something similar, except that she doesn't seem to have metal hair and clothes. (Granted, Charlie is meant to look like a teenager and not a child, but the separated face plates is almost definitely canon.)
Please let me know here if your character would be able to see Charlie as she really is! I would love to plot with you about this.
Alternatively, Charlie's canon does include mentions of missing children, child death, murder, and suicide. If you'd like to avoid tagging Charlie at all, please do let me know here!
